VERA Focus Group 4 on strategies and recommendations for the future of ERA

Project Event

Date: April 28, 2014
Location / Venue: Berlin

In the frame of VERAs Work Package 5, "ERA Strategies", the fourth Focus Group was co-organised by  ISI Fraunhofer and the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research (MIoIR). It was held on 28 April 2014 and the invited stakeholders from research funding agencies and organisations in Europe discussed the possible futures of the European Research Area as well as the perspectives and interests of different stakeholders, which is a crucial input into the debate and policy making process at the European and national level.
Besides identifying key opportunities and threats of ERA futures, strategies and recommendations from university and research actors vis-à-vis the VERA scenarios by 2030 as well as vis-à-vis the overall ERA objectives the Focus Group discussed key objectives of research funding actors that should be included in the ERA agenda.

This discussion on the possible futures of the European Research Areas and the perspectives and interests of different stakeholders is a crucial input into the debate and policy making process at the European and national level. ERA is a dynamic concept, and it must be thought of as a long term endeavour, considering the implications for and strategies of all stakeholders involved.
