ERA Strategic Dialogue Symposium

Project Event

Date: October 23-24, 2014
Location / Venue: The Lowry, Manchester

The successful completion of the European Research Area, as requested by the European Council, is perhaps the most important challenge that the new European Commission needs to address in terms of Research and Innovation in the upcoming dates. The future of ERA is actually acquiring an increased importance as long as recent indicators show that Europe still needs concrete and strategic measures to stimulate economic growth.

In this context, the VERA project – Forward Visions on the European Research Area – is organising a Strategic Dialogue Symposium that will serve as a conclusion meeting to a participatory foresight process initiated earlier this year, whereby seven stakeholders’ groups (a selected representation of Society, Academy, Industry, Research funders, ERA instruments experts, Policy-makers and International RTDI actors) discussed on the future of the ERA by 2030 drawing on four exploratory scenarios.

A set of policy-briefs reflecting the RTDI actors’ particular insights on VERA Scenarios' key features, strategic actions and recommendations will be handed out to each participant. The symposium material will be complemented with a summary of the stakeholders’ critical discussions on the appropriateness of ERA priorities to the current European context, and their ideas for further improvement. The symposium will also offer the opportunity to meet and share views with key practitioners, stakeholders and policy makers involved in the ERA process.
